1st Class Samples

My first class I'm teaching is March 10th! I had the hardest time coming up with an idea. I'm working with some amazing people and I don't want to teach something that can be found in one of the other classes. Gina put my mind to rest when she said 'it's more style than anything' at least that's what I heard her say. Since the point of having classes is to bring people into the store to by stuff I decided I would focus more on the products than the techniques. My first class I choose to focus on distress stains. You've heard me say it before I'm not a big Tim Holtz fan, but I will say the man makes some amazing products which I love.

These stains have been out for over a year and there are not to many video's about them. As most of the patrons of the store are not as into the internet as I am I thought this would be a great starting point. I tried to make sure every card has a different medium/technique used order to show the variety.  Here are my samples:

This is stamping on water color paper:

Staining ribbon (it used to be white) and stamping on it. As well as using perfect pearl mist. The background is the new cup of joe chock ink. (I love how it looks on that card which is also new)
This includes staining and stamping on ribbon as well as staining paper flowers and card stock.

I used all Hero Arts stuff cuz they are awesome plus it's a Hero Arts store. Lots of fun to be had. :D  I planned on having a drawing/door prize ($5.00 gift card to the store, if there is a larger turn out I'll have two drawings). I also planned on making sure chocolate was available. Win the ladies over with bribes. I've taken a number of classes from a number of folks and have learned some good examples of what to do and what not to do. I'd like to ask you what would be some other ideas I could use to make this a great class?

Thanks for all your support!

It's Official

Some time ago I was asked to join the Stamp Fever design team. I was very excited and sad, I had to wait through the holidays for the official announcement. Which turned out to be a blessing in disguise the holidays are always so busy.  The wait is over, the day has come! You can see the official post here:

http://stampfeverstore.blogspot.com/2012/02/meet-our-newest-design-team-member.html

What an honor, I'm so excited. This 20 second movie clip from Armageddon about sums it up. lol (sorry it's not the best quality, it was the only video clip I could find)

It's gonna be great, I'm working with some amazing folks and with any luck be able help others in their crafting adventures and earn some funds to help support the new habit. It's a win win.

That's my happy news.

Nothing to see here

I've been crafting... sort of but I have nothing to show for it. It's been a busy week with out of town family around plus that life stuff just gets in the way. I'll have some exciting news soon and with it proof I haven't been slacking off. :D  Course staying up way way to late to watch Downton Abby hasn't helped either.

Have a great weekend.

mmmm layers.

Hello,

I had an awesome long weekend, thank you Presidents day. Today's card is my last of my Shimelle inspired, ironically it was the first one I made and one of my favorites.

I love the various layers and the use of different items. Two different fonts/types for the theme, the intermingling of pattern paper and washi tape. I'm going to be honest I made this a couple of weeks ago and I can't for the life of me remember what products those are.  I can look them up if you really want/need me to.

My paper container arrived yesterday, only 5 days after I ordered it. I'm glad I made time yesterday to make a spot for it. I kept procrastinating thinking it wouldn't arrive until the end of the week. I'm glad it did. Now to clean off the desk :D

All thumbs

I made this card a couple of weeks ago. Again using Shimelle as inspiration biased this card off of this video. This isn't my style but it's important I try new things. It's how we learn and grow. Here's my growing card:

It's crazy and I keep looking at it saying I need to change this that, add more etc. I'll have to try this again. The first time one try's anything it's usually a bit awkward. This is really a bunch of random bits of stuff I have lying around.

So excited for the long weekend. Hope you have a safe one.

It's the little things

I'm on cloud nine thanks to Target and Sterilite you guys are the best.. this card is for you!

I made this with the leftovers from this card. The paper is from Memory box. The sentiment is from Close to my heart, nice and simple. I will be entering this into the Lilypad pattern paper challenge. (There's still time for you to make something.)

My cloud nine info. New to the hobby and on tight budget I researched the best way for me to to store paper and about 10 months ago I procured this bad boy

I love it! One of the best features is each drawer has a lid AND you can remove it from the station! Plus I can roll it around to where I need it and it's not super heavy filled. If I'm on the go, special project, just pull it out and go. I've even taken the whole thing out before. I realized I needed a second one. (It's my ocd, I really want each color to have it's own drawer.) To my horror I found out they stopped making them. :( I contacted Sterilite they said I was smoking crack and they didn't exist. I cryed many nights... (ok, ok ok, I didn't.. just go with it) Last week I decided to give it another try. I contacted Sterilite told my story and politely asked them to manufacture them again. To my excitement this morning they responded with yes its available here is the link. It's can only be purchased online from Target, but that's ok it will give me time to clear a hole for it. :D

Now I'm forced to decide should off white go in the white drawer or the brown drawer? What do you think?

CFC #39

Today's post is brought to us buy:

The second I saw the challenge I new exactly what I wanted to do:

It came out beautiful to, if I don't mind saying so myself. Although the photo is washed out. I'll have to talk to the hubby about this. Anywho...

Very simple a penny black stamp with picadilly paper. That's it really. The background stamp and sentiment is from Hero Arts.

Happy Day to you

It's been a busy day intern causes a quick post. Valentine's day isn't a big day in our house hold. Nor was it growing up. It is an important day for my Mother in law. (It's not fun learning things the hard way.) Since it is important to her and we love her lots. I made her a special card:

I had to use that blue paper. You see the in laws have been redoing their dining room and the material chosen for the chairs is a perfect match with that left hand side heart. The heart dies are from Hero Arts as is the back ground stamp.

I hope your day is going well.

Buttons FTW!

When I was younger I got into the habit of pushing my limits and trying/checking out new things. This habit of mine has recently caused me to check out Two Peas in a Bucket again. That and I'm loving the glitter girl video's :D  I decided to join this weeks Saturday sketch contest.

That paper is from Memory box {love it} as are the button dies :D I'm very pleased with his card and that button die. The look of cool buttons without the bulk. Great for mailing... which I really need to do more of.

Have a great weekend!

Er that's not a card

Your right it isn't. It's a scrapbook page. As I stated last week I discovered Shimelle Laine and have thoroughly enjoyed her videos. For the most part her techniques can be transferred onto cards as which I'll show you another day. After all those scrapbooking video's I had to give it a try.

Stamp Fever usually has a sample scrapbook sample page over the scrapbook paper. (They don't have much paper.) The older page was from Christmas so I asked if I could give it a try. The down side to samples at the store is all the items used on the page have to be available at the store. As I'm not a scrapbooker I don't really  have lots of supplies. I bought a few things with what they had and made do:

As there were thousands of us that wanted to go to CHA but didn't get to go I used that as the theme. I pulled (with permission) photo's from the store's FaceBook page and printed them out. Everything can be purchased from the store with the exception of the washi tape. I got that from a drawing I won back in June. The paper is Cosmo Cricket country drive with the matching sticker sheet. I did use two Hero Arts stamps, the friend definition and the daisy outline pattern. I can't say I scraplifted this from Shimelle however it's done in her style, heavenly based on this video:  Glitter Girl Adventure 004: Layer upon Layer

It's good to push one's style and try new things. :D

Hi...Hello!

I went AWOL again.. sorry. Actually I did a ton of craft projects I just didn't get a chance to photograph them. For Christmas Dk got me an awesome light tent and sweet lights to go with it. Which had been set up  at the Kitchen table for the last couple of months. Karen, our roommate, came to us and said we could keep it there permanently which I appreciate... however I'd prefer to use our kitchen table for everything else. Plus our place is grand central station and those lights are to expensive for the foot traffic. Ideally I'd like it near the craft desk however that room is already busting at the seams. We moved things around and it's now set up in the bedroom in a more permanent location. Were still playing with the lighting.  So much for having a decorated finished room. (It's not like we owned nice furniture anyways) The things we sacrifice in the name of art. :D

I made this card for two challenges this months Hero Arts and Lily Pad's pattern paper challenge.

Here is most of what I used:

InLinkz.com

Not included are the pearls and gems.. I think they are Hero Arts don't quote me on that. Use what you have. The exclamation mark is from a Lawn Fawn set.

Oh boy am I loving pattern paper, you can expect to see a few more cards entered into the Lily Pad challenge. Thankfully we have 15 more days to enter. :D

Peace out.
